Lycopene is most commonly associated with tomatoes, but apparently watermelons contain more of the cancer-reducing, heart-healthy substance. Often the disregarded fruit, the watermelon contains plenty of antioxidants that help combat the undesirable signs of aging and ward off certain diseases.

Arginine and citrulline are only two of the substances contained in watermelon that help keep arteries – and therefore the circulation – healthy. When there is efficient blood flow throughout the body, the immune system also works more effectively in fighting infections and preventing illnesses. Proper circulation is also related to adequate metabolism, which helps break down the body’s energy stores for use in cellular functions.

Watermelons can also be a cheap weight loss idea for anyone who loves the fruit. One cup worth of watermelon only contains approximately fifty calories, so there is really no reason to worry when indulging in this sweet treat. Also, watermelons are ninety-two percent water which means that they are truly wonderful thirst-quenchers and appetite-suppressants.

The feeling of fullness right after gulping down a serving of watermelon stays for thirty minutes to an hour, so you’ll have more than enough time to think twice about your cravings while you chow down on your melon slice. Watermelons for weight loss are definitely a good thing to try out.
