How Your Body Image Affects Your Diet

The extent to which people are able to maintain lifestyle changes geared towards weight loss strongly depends on how these people feel about themselves, their weight, and their bodies.

Studies show that obese men and women who intend to shed off some pounds are usually hindered by a negative self-esteem. They don't feel good enough about themselves and their bodies, that they eventually feel that it is useless to put in that much effort in making themselves look good physically, especially after tedious workout and exercise that do not yield significant results.

Men and women who have a relatively positive body image, regardless of whether or not they are overweight, tend to have a stronger drive to achieve their ideal body weight than those who do not feel too good about themselves. When it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and losing excess fat, it all boils down to a matter of motivation and dedication to these individuals.

Self-Esteem and Healthy Weight Loss

A good and cheap weight loss idea would have to include having a check on your self-esteem and determine whether or not you feel good enough about yourself. Take a piece of paper and begin writing down positive and negative things about yourself in separate columns. Read them over and find out how these qualities make you feel.

Do they make you depressed?
Do they give a sense of worthlessness?
Or are they simply statements of fact that you are already aware of and can live with?
Can you accept all of these things about yourself and still feel that you are a person of value?

If you decide that you want to lose weight and look your best, first make sure that you value yourself enough to see it to the end -- no matter how hard you have to work for it.  Feeling good for weight loss means that you have to feel good about yourself first, and the rest of it will follow.
